Here is a high end Primare surround sound processor, pre-amp that should not be missed. Full 7.1 support, 24bit/192kHz DAC, a balanced stereo input and balanced output for the front left/right channels. Support for AES/EBU digital input, as well as standard SPDIF optical/coax. The key thing about this processor is its high quality pre-amp credentials, which allow it to bypass all the digital circuitry for a squeaky clean sound, that can match Primare’s dedicated stereo pre-amp, the P30. Primare designed the key functionality with Michael Bladelius, well known for his work with Threshold, Classé and Pass Labs.
Although not featuring any HDMI inputs, this need not be an issue due to its 7.1. analogue direct in, which will allow any decent Bluray player to feed in lossless Dolby TrueHD / DTS-MA / LPCM streams.
This processor is still available new as the SP31 for £2395 (albeit with slightly different fascia). The next model up, SP32, featuring HDMI support currently sells for £2975. Thus this could turn out to be a bargain buy.
